Admission Counselor, Admission Department

The Admission Counselor position provides prospective students with information about Mount Saint Mary's University and supports their application and enrollment processes. Plan, coordinate and conduct recruitment activities within designated geographic territories and review students' applications for admission. This position reports to the Associate Director of Admission and works closely with key support offices and enrollment team.

Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles) and Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles). Hybrid work schedule available.

Start Date: Immediately

Position Hourly Rate Range: $21.74- $24.75

Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engage with prospective MSMU students to recruit and generate applications for admission. To be accomplished by planning and executing a schedule of in-person and virtual recruitment activities, including information sessions, high school and community-based organization visits, college nights and fairs, workshops and presentations. This includes managing all travel arrangements within a stipulated budget.
• Manage assigned geographic territory which would include in-state and possibly out-of-state recruitment. Develop new recruitment strategies for specific assigned markets and student populations. Manage assigned geographic territories to achieve numerical territory goals ideally maintaining or surpassing the previous year.
  • Work extended hours along with nights and weekends during essential recruitment times.
  • Leverage technology and Slate CRM to review reports as it relates to the admission funnel.
• Cultivate positive relationships with counseling staff at high schools so they can partner with the University in generating applications for admission.
• Work closely with and support prospective students and applicants through the admissions process via telephone, email, texting, and personal contact throughout the course of the admission cycle.
• Evaluate admission applications and supporting documents (i.e. school transcripts, essays, etc.) from applicants in assigned recruitment territories.
• Interact professionally with a variety of constituents outside of the University who are in a position to influence prospective students.
• Participate and assist with planning in Admission Office and relevant MSMU events throughout the year.
• Maintain a visible relationship on both MSMU campuses.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize, plan and execute programs designed to support the overall recruitment efforts of the MSMU Admission Office.
• Participate in professional association meetings (e.g. Western Association of College Admissions Counselors) when appropriate.
• Weekend and/or evening work will be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Knowledge:

• General knowledge of undergraduate transfer admission and higher education, including the difference between Associate of Arts, Baccalaureate, and adult program degrees.
• Enrollment management and data systems knowledge/experience a plus, particularly Slate.
• Understanding of financial aid policies and procedures helpful.

Abilities and Skills:

• Excellent organization and prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortably speak to groups and individuals from many different backgrounds and quickly build rapport.
• Able to exercise sound judgement, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical though creative solutions.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and follow through to completion.
• Work well alone and in a team.
• High energy level.
• Willing and able to conduct out-of-area recruitment travel.
• Patience and flexibility.
• Creative problem solver.
• Possess a valid California driver's license and reliable vehicle.
• Good sense of direction and ability to navigate.
• Analytical and able to make sound judgments/decisions.
• Spanish fluency beneficial.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree required, ideally from a small private liberal arts institution.

Experience:

• One to Two years' experience working in a high school, community-based organization or an institution of higher learning (e.g. in counseling, admission or as a teacher/faculty member) or another related field. This can include work in an Admission Office as a student.
• Preference given to candidates with prior experience in higher education settings.

Licenses and Certifications:

• A valid California Class 'C' driver's license, use of reliable auto and auto insurance is required.
