Transcript Evaluation Coordinator (hybrid potential)
Position Purpose
This position is responsible for administering a comprehensive system of transcript evaluation for degree-seeking students, evaluating prior transcripts for prospective transfer students in undergraduate and graduate programs. This position collaborates with colleagues on transfer credit evaluation to ensure consistent practice and processing. Additionally, this position engages in updating student audits in DegreeWorks and graduation tracking as needed.
Essential Duties Summary
- Determine if institutions are accredited; evaluate transfer transcript coursework in undergraduate and graduate programs for New England College equivalencies. Detect fraudulent transcripts and 'institutions'. Provide evaluations to students and college constituents and clarify transfer credit decisions as needed;
- Collaborate with content experts from Academic Affairs for guidance on transfer credit equivalencies and decisions.
- Enter student course equivalencies of transfer courses into Banner. Confirm transfer credit is applied appropriately in degree programs through DegreeWorks;
- Identify recommended course sequencing for incoming students adjusted for transfer credit awarded and assist with initial enrollment as needed;
- Participate in ongoing audit update and student record management as part of the Registrar's Office team, including, but not limited to, exceptions processing and notes regarding transfer credit in DegreeWorks. Support ongoing retention initiatives for students;
- Evaluate alternate credit (AP, IB, CLEP, DANTES, etc) and military training and coursework. Facilitate initial conversations with students on prior learning options;
- Research college catalogs and consult with appropriate stakeholders in academic affairs to assist with audits for former students seeking readmission or admission into a second degree program and communicate remaining requirements;
- Approve and record courses taken at other institutions by students enrolled at NEC, including study abroad credit;
- Support the maintenance of institutions and approved equivalencies in course equivalency management system and associated tables in the student information system. Design efficient and effective transfer tools, processes and products in collaboration with the academic community and transcript evaluation team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- 1-3 years' experience in student registration, advising, or admissions;
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Conduct independent research using the internet and communicating with primary sources;
- Manage priorities and time effectively;
- Provide a high level of customer-centered service;
- Manage expectations using clear and consistent verbal and written communications;
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
