POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to work in the area of experimental fusion plasma and stability physics research. The research will primarily focus on the DIII-D tokamak, a cornerstone element in the U.S. fusion program strategy and in view of advanced ITER operations. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of model and data uncertainties for real-time applications, with a preference for the development of probabilistic frameworks for time-to-event predictions. Will continue the development of real-time models for DIII-D disruption prediction to be employed as alarms to off-normal events or as proximity-to-instability monitoring; lead the integration of such algorithms with the Disruption Free Protocol at DIII-D to qualify relevant solutions for ITER scenarios; contribute original research to the PSFC program, produce work for publication, and present work at scientific conferences; and mentor graduate students.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in plasma physics or closely related science and engineering discipline; experience working with data at scale and understanding plasma stability, disruptions, and their experimental measurements; proficiency with Python or MATLAB programming; and experience with common open-source software development practices. Must be able to communicate effectively and work in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment with staff and students from MIT, other universities, national laboratories, and private industry.
