The Institute for Brain Science and the Department of Neuroscience invite applications for a tenured faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful applicant will use advanced molecular or genetic approaches to address fundamental mechanisms underlying brain development, function, or disorders. Any experimental system will be considered, but a successful candidate will address questions critical to understanding human brain function. We seek an established scientist with an MD and/or PhD degree who has an international reputation, a well supported, highly successful independent research program, and an established record of scholarly contribution. A collaborative approach is essential. The incumbent is expected to participate in the educational mission of Brown University.

Qualifications: Criteria for Associate Professor with tenure 1. PhD or MD, and 2 or more years of postdoctoral experience. 2. Research. Must have a record of scholarly productivity through publication in peer-reviewed journals and a record of presentation at scientific meetings and at research seminars. Must have an established program of research with continuity of funding and continuous productivity. Must have a national reputation for excellence in scholarship and a record of professional service to the scientific community. 3. Teaching. Must be an effective lecturer and a mentor of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and have the ability to direct suitable departmental courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. 4. Service. Potential for productive interactions with faculty members of the Division of Biology and Medicine, the Institute for Brain Sciences community, and the University at large. Criteria for full Professor with tenure All criteria for Associate Professor, plus: 1. A clear record of excellence in research and training over a long time period. 2. A history of successfully obtaining large research awards from both federal agencies and foundations. 3. International stature in the candidates field of study. 4. Potential for interaction with faculty across many areas of BIBS. In particular, an appointment at this level should produce a sea change in the nature of research at Brown, as well as dramatically increase our stature and visibility both within and outside of the brain sciences.
