TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , McGovern Institute for Brain Research , to help develop novel tools for genome editing, gene therapy, and molecular diagnostics and apply these tools towards and understanding and treating genetic diseases in the Abudayyeh - Gootenberg Lab. The specific projects will include discovery and characterization of novel enzymes for therapeutic and diagnostic applications and will involve molecular cloning, protein purification, and mammalian cell culture. Additional responsibilities will include data analysis and communication of results to other team members and providing experimental support and leading independent parts of the project as necessary. These responsibilities will include generating protocols, maintaining common reagents, and managing lab safety issues.
This position emphasizes scientific growth will offer an opportunity for direct mentorship with the principal investigators of the lab in both research and publication efforts and to develop independence in promising research directions.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : scientific or engineering bachelor's degree in biology, biological engineering, or a related field; at least two years' relevant research experience; some experience in a biological laboratory, preferably with mammalian tissue culture, biochemistry, or molecular biology; comfort working with rodents; excellent organizational, communication, planning, and time-management skills; a desire to be an integral part of a cutting-edge research team; the ability to execute independent projects; and willingness to help with other lab management needs. Seek someone who would like to work as part of a team to advance the research in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED : knowledge of and experience with relevant molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture techniques, genetic engineering, and animal care; and familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis.
