About the Opportunity: The Program Manager and Student Outreach Specialist (Program Manager) functions as an integral member of the Center for Co-op and Career Development team, with leadership responsibility in defined areas, including planning and execution of specialized student programs and regular outreach and engagement with student affinity groups. The Program Manager coordinates the Co-op office's efforts to design and deliver specialized professional development programming for an array of student group and serves as NUSL's main point of contact for minority bar association groups and professional organizations seeking access to our students for career programming and networking events. In addition, the Program Manager serves as an active member of the busy Co-op Operations team, with lead responsibility for student check-ins during co-op and with other duties crucial to the smooth operation of the co-op program, which sends 750+ students on co-ops, year-round.
Percent of Time
Co-op Program Coordination: Oversee mid-semester check-ins for students on co-op, triaging student concerns as needed. Train students on effectively using NUSL's employment database by leading training sessions with other members of the Operations team. Track student records and ensure that all program requirements are met in order to qualify a student for graduation. Assist with follow-up to students and employers whose records are incomplete. Contribute to the Operations team as general administrative support during peak busy times of each co-op quarter, working closely with the Administrative Assistant(s) and other members of the Operations team.
Co-creation and Maintenance of Student Resource Guides. Develop resource guides specific to the particular needs of the various affinity groups. Update them annually.
Lead the Co-op office in designing, delivering, and evaluating comprehensive programs that focus on the particular needs of NUSL's affinity groups. This includes program management and budgetary management for the affinity group-based career and professional development programs. This responsibility extends also to effectively coordinating with similar programs run by outside entities such as bar associations, professional organizations, and law firms Responsible for continuing and further developing NUSL's newly launched programs such as the BLSA Women's program, the Diversity Pipeline to Judicial Clerkships program, and the First Generation student quarterly events, as well as working with the co-chairs of the student groups to generate and implement new program ideas on an ongoing basis. Budgetary management aspects of this role include: strategically leveraging a portion of the Co-op office's Student Activities budget to deliver an array of economical and effective programs for the affinity groups, and working with the Assistant Dean to identify and obtain outside program funding from law firms and bar associations that have allocated grant money to promote diversity in the profession.
Attend student organization meetings in order to collect and disseminate feedback on student needs and interests. Plan affinity group events and activities in coordination with the Assistant Dean. Assist with identifying and scheduling students to represent the law school at various external community and networking events, such as Bar Association and law firm-sponsored programs. Generate and implement new ideas for student engagement.
Supervision: Provide training and supervision for occasional temporary employees. Assist with work-study supervision.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications: The Program Manager and Student Relations specialist must have a B.A. and at least 5-7 years of professional administrative experience, preferably in an academic or legal setting. Strong written and interpersonal skills are a must. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and to competently represent NUSL and the Center for Co-op and Career Development when dealing with bar associations and other community organizations. Excellent customer service to students from a wide range of backgrounds, and prior experience working with diverse constituencies are also required. It is critical that this person be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines. The Program Manager and Student Outreach Specialist must be proactive, creative, professional, mature, and have excellent organizational skills. Must be comfortable planning and executing programs and events effectively and collaboratively. Strong computer skills are also required, across various platforms - including complex platforms designed specifically for the law school's signature co-op program.
Preferred Qualifications: Fluency in social media avenues or a willingness to learn, and master's degree in related field are a plus.
