The LIMS & BioAutomation Specialist will provide hands-on support for the automation software and hardware within the BU Covid-19 testing facility. They will maintain, develop and troubleshoot methods on automated laboratory instruments. The position will require developing and sustaining knowledge of at-scale and emerging Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) deployed for Boston University to help BU manage laboratory activities including but not limited to testing for Covid-19.
Duties may include: programming, troubleshooting hardware/software, account management, configuration, update planning, training, and other support for both the instruments and related software. Duties may also include facilitation of the development and/or the integration of customized functionality to supplement existing functionalities, as needed.
Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biology required, advanced oral and writing skills,
3-5 years of work experience. Experience with scripting and/or a programming language preferably Python, C, or C++.
Familiarity with molecular biology, assay development, and sample preparation is a plus.
Develop and sustain technical knowledge of automation hardware and software related to biomolecular techniques. Experience must include hands-on experience with automation software and hardware, specifically automated liquid handling devices.
Serve as the point person working with vendors on platform incidents and problem resolution. Experience with Hamilton robots and Venus software with the ability to learn and adapt to new workflows is a plus.
Develop and maintain updates to relevant training materials for the platform and project teams. Works with stakeholders to ensure that platform capabilities meet the requirements, provide fit/gap analysis, and assist with implementing solutions.
Stay abreast of relevant related platform technologies and proactively investigate them for use within the BU context.
