Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an electrical/HVAC mechanical specialist for our facilities and grounds department.
Under the supervision of the electrical supervisor and the mechanical/HVAC supervisor, this position provides journeyman level repairs and maintenance on all electrical and HVAC/mechanical systems within college owned, rented, or leased facilities. The specialist will perform routine and extensive range of work in the repair, renovation, general maintenance, and daily operation of college facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment under general supervision of the lead worker in the assigned department as needed, including but not limited to carpentry, hardware, grounds, painting, plumbing, and events set-up. May be assigned to any facility department for a prolonged length of time depending on the needs of the College and the skill set of the employee. They will assist with repairs to and reconfigurations of fire alarm systems and security systems, minor electrical renovations and rewiring, and assist with or perform independently repair, installation, operation, and maintenance of all electrical and electronic devices, systems and equipment as directed and coordinated with other trades as needed. This position requires the ability to climb ladders and work on scaffolding and aerial lift equipment when needed. The electrical/HVAC mechanical specialist will act as College essential personnel and must participate in the emergency response and snow removal programs.
A high school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years technical trade school training or two years field experience working as an electrician’s assistant or helper is required. Qualified candidate is preferred to have knowledge of and experience with mechanical systems as well as experience in an educational or institutional setting. This position requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and candidate must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy. The electrical/HVAC mechanical specialist must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment physical.
