Curry College’s Department of Fine and Applied Arts is seeking a Special Appointment in Music for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and experienced choral conductor and an ethnomusicologist who will assist the Department in expanding the Music Minor and building ties between music curriculum, other academic programs, co-curricular activities, and the community beyond Curry College.

The faculty member will also work collaboratively with other academic programs and institutional committees on campus (e.g., Black Studies, Asian Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Diversity Committee) to develop curricular and co-curricular programming. In addition, the successful candidate would provide recommendations to the Department both for future curriculum direction and for sustained outreach to current and prospective students via Admissions and Student Affairs. Outreach would involve developing an admissions recruiting/retention strategy that involves 1) arts outreach through taking music at Curry into the community, and hosting artistic/cultural events in conjunction with curricular and co-curricular activities, and 2) building the arts at Curry as a way of maintaining and validating the sense of community that students of various cultures bring with them. The successful candidate must have a skill set that balances scholarship in ethnomusicology and performance, and the ability to provide leadership in connecting the arts at Curry to communities internal and external to the College.
