PROGRAM HEAD , MIT Libraries-Lewis Music Library , to lead the exploration and implementation of future-oriented strategies for the Lewis Music Library . Will collaborate with Music and Theater Arts faculty to advance a strategic vision in the computational age; incorporate multimedia and emerging technologies into existing services and collections, including an on-site audio lab; envision and implement digital initiatives related to music/audio/multimedia; provide course-integrated instruction and contribute to discussions on music in the digital age; lead and direct operations, including developing, managing, and coaching staff; develop and manage collections in all formats; offer research and reference support; plan, deliver, and promote programs/special events; cultivate and steward potential donors, initiate grants, and obtain selected gifts in kind.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : MLS/MLIS and a B.A. in music or an advanced degree in music; five-plus years' relevant professional experience, including supervision and program oversight; ability to apply subject expertise to collections strategy, research consultation, and instruction; knowledge of best practices in selection and management of musical collections in all formats; experience applying principles of diversity and inclusion in service development; and strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills. A mix of knowledge/skills regarding the following is required: audio technology and computer applications relevant to music and/or sound engineering; digital scholarship, text or data mining, music encoding, digital exhibits, and/or computer-assisted composition; teaching experience; music cataloging and metadata and discovery of music materials; and archival practice and/or digital preservation. PREFERRED : record of accomplishment in scholarship, musical performance, sound engineering, or composition; experience supporting a music program with an active performance component; experience with fund-raising and/or grant writing; and experience designing/planning/promoting events.
