Hospital Technician Development Coordinator - (19002079)
The Foster Hospital for Small Animals and The Hospital for Large Animals are the flagship teaching hospitals of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, with approximately 35,000 and 1,800 patient visits per year in 2018. They provide specialist and referral veterinary care for clients and patients from throughout New England. They serve as the primary clinical training environment for Cummings School's veterinary students, interns and clinical residents and serve as the primary location for its clinical research enterprise.
The Technician Development Coordinator (TDC) supports the development of technical staff for FHSA and HLA through development of structured onboarding and training programs and coordination of continuing education opportunities. The position additionally oversees technician externships.
Specific goals include supporting the integration of new technical staff into our hospitals and improving the knowledge base, technical clinical reasoning and emotional intelligence of technicians. This position would capitalize on existing Cummings School expertise and learning events, as well as available outside expertise when appropriate.
* Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology or another relevant animal biology related field. A DVM would be considered. * CVT required, or DVM. * Five (5) years' experience as a veterinarian or 10 years' experience as a veterinary technician. * Sufficient knowledge of professional veterinary nursing standards, concepts, policies, and practices. * Word, Excel, Power Point, electronic medical record.
* Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as an effective member of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
-VTS designation strongly preferred if applicant is a technician. -This individual should possess extensive experience as a veterinary technician or a veterinarian in a clinical setting, preferably in academic teaching hospitals or large specialty hospital, coupled with the flair, strong interest and proficiency in delivering information to others. -Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while working in a very busy and stressful environment. A pleasant, positive, professional attitude in order to interact positively with all individuals and services in the hospital. -Previous experience as a manager, supervisor or an educator (formal or informal) of veterinary technicians, veterinary students, or DVMs. -This individual is a conveyor of knowledge and displays a commitment to lifelong learning.
