Associate Director Academic Support - Office of Student Affairs, School of Medicine - (19001904)
The Office of Student Affairs is responsible for all student support services and the enrollment management of 800 medical students. The OSA provides a multitude of services to students, as well as faculty members, the TUSM clinical affiliates and TUSM academic and administrative offices. OSA provides academic support, oversees the coordination and delivery of the clinical curriculum, manages the career advising and residency application process for medical students, plans and executes many events including orientation programs for 1st, 2nd & 3rd year students, White Coat ceremony, Match Day and Commencement activities. The OSA also has oversight of the Coaching Program and Learning Communities and coordinates many aspects of student life including management of the dormitory and fitness center, oversight of Student Council and student club funding and serves as a liaison between students and faculty/administration.
The Associate Director of Academic Support (ADAS) will be responsible for assisting in the provision of academic support for students in the School of Medicine, primarily (but not exclusively) in the M.D. program as they adapt their study and personal habits, and their test-taking skills, to the demands of medical school. The Associate Director will develop and implement programs to enhance academic support and retention of students. This includes individual support to students and group level support around time management, study techniques, high volume learning and test-taking strategies for students in the M.D., P.A. and M.B.S. programs. The ADAS will also coordinate and implement the peer tutor and workshop program for M.D. students and create and implement academic support for medical students around the National Board examination process. The ADAS will follow the academic progress of all students in the M.D. program and be a resource for students experiencing academic difficulty in the MBS and PA programs. Approximately 10% of total time will be devoted to students in the MBS and PA programs. In addition, the ADAS will be the intake person for students seeking accommodations for disabilities in the M.D. program and will assist in the implementation and coordination of those accommodations (in conjunction with the University's Office of Equal Opportunity). The ADAS will be an integral member of the student affairs team and will be involved meetings of the Student Affairs Committee and will be the MD program representative on the University Accessibility Committee.
Minimum 5 years post-degree experience providing academic support to higher ed students.
Experience with medical or other health profession students strongly preferred.
Experience conducting educational workshops, seminars, groups in front of large audience.
Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with Qualtrics helpful.
Experience providing academic support to graduate or professional degree students in a health science setting is strongly preferred.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Must be willing to work occasional evenings/weekends, including OSA special events such as White Coat Ceremony, Career Specialty night, Graduation Week events and Commencement as well as occasional class meetings.
