The Associate Director of Residential Education is responsible for assisting in the administration, supervision and coordination of the Residence Life program. The Associate Director oversees all aspects of the community and individual development that occur in the Residence Halls including RA training, RA programming, and Learning Communities. The Associate Director supervises the Residence Director staff and the Area Coordinator. This position will assist the Director of Housing and Residential Education in forecasting and evaluating staffing for potential department reorganization of responsibilities.
Supervise and evaluate 4 Residence Directors and 1 Area Coordinator by meeting with each on a weekly basis to discuss areas of supervision, including programming, staffing, resident concerns, conflict situations, and their personal and professional development. Assist in the ongoing development and assessment of a residential curriculum that is focused on identity and community. Oversee budget by reviewing all expenditures, maintaining logs of expenses, and ensure procedures are properly followed. Oversee all aspects of RA programming and community development efforts by educating RAs about programming, providing information about resources and funding, collecting, evaluating and reporting program statistics. Provide the direct development, support, and evaluation of partnership with academic affairs and faculty programs. Provide direction and development of the Learning Communities program and ensuring the successful training, supervision, and evaluation of staff working directly with the Learning Communities. Coordinate RA Selection by developing recruitment and application tools, training interviewers, conducting information sessions and interviews and facilitating selection meetings. Work with External Programs Office and the LA and Castle programs to assist in selection and training Resident Assistants for those sites. Provide leadership and direction for the department in the absence of the Director of Housing and Residential Education by responding to emergencies, supervising staff, attending meetings and acting as a liaison between appropriate offices. Serve on call on a rotating basis with other staff in Campus Life by communicating with the RD on duty, responding to calls for assistance and/or information, and carrying a cell phone. Assist in policy development and implementation as it relates to the overall housing and residence life operation by collaborating with appropriate people and policies.

5-7 year of experience working with people from diverse cultures with experience in a college or university Housing and Residence Life environment with progressively significant time spent on staff supervision, housing operations, student programming, student conduct, and administrative duties.
Master's degree or equivalent experience in Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
Ability to effectively work with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences
Strong organizational skills; comprehensive knowledge of student development theory
Knowledgeable about legal issues relative to student affairs, housing operations, and residential life
