We are looking for a clinical research assistant to join the Cohen Laboratory for Translational Neuroimaging, part of the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience within Boston Children's Hospital. Our mission is to identify the neuroanatomical substrate for symptoms common in autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions with a goal of direct and rapid translation into possible targets for noninvasive treatment modalities, e.g., TMS and/or fMRI-based neurofeedback.
We use a combination of lesion network mapping and big data computational analysis along with functional MRI and behavioral phenotyping to generate circuit-based hypotheses for specific symptoms from clinical cohorts with lesions or focal brain abnormalities and then validate these hypotheses through prospective neuroimaging study of children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders with similar symptoms and typically developing volunteers.
The position also offers opportunities to follow physician-scientists closely and work directly with patients and research participants. Applicants must be well-organized in order to coordinate and manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously. Working well with staff, patients, and participants is essential.
Duties include participant focused activities such as recruiting participants, running research visits, and summarizing data; regulatory tasks like preparing and maintaining IRB protocols and correspondence; and computing-based duties like transferring and converting MRI data into research-ready formats, and writing, debugging, and organizing scripts and Jupyter notebooks.
We are primarily interested in candidates with either experience in prospective recruitment and behavioral testing of children, and/or experience with MATLAB, Python, or UNIX shell scripting, but a willingness to learn is more important than advanced knowledge of multiple languages.
This position will provide valuable experience in both clinical and basic research, as well as clinical exposure, which makes it an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue an MD, PhD, or both. The ideal candidate would be willing to accept the position for 2 years, although a shorter time frame may be an option.
To qualify, you must have:
1.Bachelor's degree in related field. 2.Experience in prospective recruitment and behavioral testing of children, and/or experience with MATLAB, Python, or UNIX shell scripting preferred. 3.Well developed communication skills.
