Staff Assistant - Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning, School of Arts and Sciences - (19001783)
The department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) is located within the School of Arts & Sciences. The department offers four master's degree programs: a master of arts (MA) in urban and environmental policy and planning and a master of science (MS) in environmental policy and planning, which are accredited by the planning accreditation board (PAB), a master of public policy (MPP), which is targeted to professionals with at least seven years of work experience in policy and planning-related fields, and a new master of science (MS) in sustainability. UEP also offers four certificate programs, an interdisciplinary undergraduate minor in urban studies, and a post-graduate certificate in urban justice and sustainability.
This individual performs complex and diverse duties for the department and serves as a source of information and problem solving for students, faculty, staff and other constituents. They will provide general guidance and explanation of departmental policies and procedures and may communicate on behalf of manager(s) to explain or disseminate information. They will also provide administrative support including organizing files systems for office, coordinating meetings, as well as producing, proofreading and editing complex reports, documents and spreadsheets. They will coordinate planning and logistics for meetings and special events including design of marketing and publicity materials, tracking responses, working with speakers on materials and set up. They will also assist with the development of program materials and brochures, update social media and web information, and assist with content and design. They will provide day-to-day support to the department student affairs coordinator, chair, and department administrator in tasks including but not limited to student recruitment, applications and admissions, learning assessment, and internship and career placement.
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by high school diploma and 2-4 years of experience OR a college degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including word processing, editing, graphics, spreadsheets and databases, as well as some experience with marketing and outreach using social media platforms.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: May require occasional weekend or evening work.
