Reporting to the GSAS Dean for Administration and Finance, this position performs significant human resources administration functions for a staff of 50-plus, including performance management, developing and pursuing strategic goals, and coordination of hiring processes.
Partners closely with FAS HR. Maintains personnel files.
Works closely and collaboratively with FAS HR on development and classification of new positions, job classifications and reclassifications, equity reviews, salary administration, performance management and compensation process, requests for independent contractor status, rewards and recognition, and other FAS or University-wide initiatives.
Consults with FAS HR in problem-solving employee issues.
Handles staff relations issues; works with diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity to help resolve staff problems and concerns.
Communicates to the GSAS staff on position vacancies and hires; works with managers to update position descriptions, serves as department recruiter.
Manages staff payrolls including staff and LHTs.
Carries out high-level special projects and implements administrative policies and initiatives.
Develops priorities to ensure the most effective use of staff.
Assists in the assignment and coordination of special projects across functional areas within GSAS.
Works with the Dean on strategic planning.
Serves as liaison with Smith Campus Center building management.
Manages the Administrative Coordinator.
Has the capacity and willingness to serve as a mentor to GSAS support staff.
Manages and coordinates general support functions provided by support staff across the organization (e.g. staffing reception desk, answering phones, planning meetings).

Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant administrative experience.
Knowledge of employment law and HR policies and practices.
Experience managing and developing staff required.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills required. Harvard experience desirable. Proven ability to assess existing organizational culture and structures and to develop new programs and approaches. Facility with using modern administrative IT and software products (MS Office, PeopleSoft, shared drives, portable devices)
