Under general supervision from a designated administrator, primarily responsible for the design and implementation of networks as opposed to service coordination of externally developed and owned systems. The majority of duties performed include engineering of enterprise data, voice, optical and wireless networks in differing stages of development, maintenance, and modification.
Designs, develops, and maintains network communications utilizing knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to install internal and external networks; specific duties will vary according to the life cycle and the technical complexity of the network and associated hardware and software; provide high-level support and technical expertise in networking technology, including LAN/WAN hardware, WLAN, switches and routers;
Plans, designs, engineers, programs, maintains, and manages enterprise networks;
Establish and operate network test facilities; analyze and monitor network activity to ensure optimal network operation; monitor network traffic, usage, and performance;
Perform analysis of network efficiency and traffic routing; troubleshoot system failures referring to vendor or technicians as appropriate; test and evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements;
Evaluates new technologies to optimize network efficiency and performance;
Creates and maintains a disaster recovery, security, and back-up and restore plan; implementing when necessary;
Work with vendors, clients, and technical staff on network implementation, optimization and ongoing management;
Monitoring network database integrity;
Maintain a secure transfer of data to multiple locations via internal and external networks;
Perform system backups; ensure adequate inventory of network supplies;
Serve as seasoned and proficient professional;
Other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with four (4) years’ experience –OR- six (6) years’ experience.
Experience and/or training include advanced level experience working with networking hardware and software including network design and implementation.
Experience may include related certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP).
Possesses a thorough understanding commonly- used concepts, practices, and procedures related to area of expertise and contributes through experience, collaboration, and problem resolution.
