POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , Aeronautics and Astronautics , to join a team that is assessing advanced hybrid-electric aircraft concepts with embedded propulsion systems in the Gas Turbine Laboratory. The project, supported by industry, focuses on exploring the design space of distortion tolerant, low pressure ratio, integral motor-fan concepts, and on quantifying the performance benefits of boundary layer ingesting (BLI), and distributed propulsion systems (DP). Will take a lead role in establishing the necessary modeling and assessment framework for highly integrated propulsion system-airframe configurations; and develop and implement the methodology required to carry out the design space exploration of electric motor-fan concepts for advanced hybrid electric aircraft concepts with BLI and DP, working closely with MIT students, staff, and faculty members, as well as engineers from our industry partner.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : a Ph.D. in aerospace or mechanical engineering; demonstrated strong conceptual grasp of aircraft design, aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, and numerical simulations; ability to develop and implement plans for modeling and numerical (CFD) assessment of advanced airframe configurations with embedded propulsion systems; ability to collaborate successfully within the home organization as well as with industrial partner; and excellent oral and written technical communication skills.
