The Institute for Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College is looking to fill one History course opening for the Spring 2020 semester, January 14-May 1, 2020. The course is HI204 Islam in the World.
HI204 Islam in the World pursues an interdisciplinary study of the origins of Islam and the role of Mohammed, the global expansion of the faith, the theology and thought of the Koran and Moslem traditions, and forms of art and architecture generated by the teachings of the prophet. Explores the impact of the renewal of Islam and its increasing role in the modern world. Fulfills the History and Politics Perspective and the Global Diversity requirement
For the Spring 2020 term, HI204 is scheduled to meet twice a week on Monday and Wednesday from 12:00-1:45 pm. Enrollment is capped at 35 students.
While interdisciplinary by design, the course fulfills the History and Politics Perspective is expected to introduce and utilize historical source materials, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks. A Ph.D. in History (granted by the Jan 14 start date) is preferred.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
