Salve Regina University seeks candidates with an earned Ph.D. degree in Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, Criminology, Homeland Security, Political Science, Sociology, Cybersecurity or a closely related field, with research and/or practical experience relevant to the field of Administration of Justice, for the position of Chair of the Administration of Justice department.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience bridging the gap between academia and policy, government, and/or industry. Candidates with curriculum review, curriculum development, and who are familiar with or worked in accredited programs, at the Undergraduate and Graduate level, are highly preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience, as well as experience with online and hybrid pedagogy. The successful candidate will qualify for appointment to a tenure track position at the rank of Associate or full Professor, depending on qualifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chair, in consultation with the Provost, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and department faculty, will provide strategic direction for the program in alignment with the University's mission and values. The Chair will be responsible for organizing, planning, and setting priorities for the allocation of resources within the department. These activities will include development and implementation of department staffing, policies, and procedures, in cooperation with department faculty and senior administrators and in accordance with the University's mission and standards. The Chair is responsible for scheduling courses, assessing outcomes and the hiring of adjunct and full-time faculty. This position is responsible for the department's undergraduate program, but it also interfaces with a graduate program director to coordinate scheduling for both faculty and students, as well as in curriculum and similar matters.
The Administration of Justice Department resides within a liberal arts institution built upon the Mercy tradition, which offers great opportunities for the development of interdisciplinary programs that are both unique and well suited to the needs of today's students. Earned Ph.D. degree in Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, Criminology, Homeland Security, Political Science, Sociology, Cybersecurity or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise with academic program development, innovative teaching methods and technologically mediated learning.
Strong supervisory skills preferably within higher education.
Basic knowledge of personnel regulations.
Experience managing budgets.
Knowledge and respect for faculty governance principles.
