TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , McGovern Institute for Brain Research , to join the Abudayyeh-Gootenberg Lab and help develop novel tools for genome editing and gene therapy and apply these tools towards understanding and treating age-associated diseases. The specific projects will involve engineering novel viruses for tissue-specific delivery and molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, tissue imaging, and in vivo experiments. Responsibilities will also include data analysis and communicating results to other team members; providing experimental support and leading independent parts of the project as necessary; and generating protocols, maintaining common reagents, and managing lab safety issues. This position emphasizes scientific growth and will provide an opportunity for direct mentorship from the principal investigators in their research and publication efforts and to develop independence in promising research directions.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in biology, biological engineering, or a related field; at least two years' relevant research experience (undergraduate research experience may count for up to one year of relevant research experience), including some in a biological laboratory, preferably with mammalian tissue culture, biochemistry, or molecular biology; comfort working with animals; excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills; desire to be an integral part of a cutting-edge research team; ability to execute independent projects; willingness to help with other lab management needs; and the ability and desire to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of and experience with relevant molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture techniques; genetic engineering; and animal care preferred.
