ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, AND SAFETY (EHS) COORDINATOR , Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL, 50%) and MIT.nano (50%) , to provide day-to-day oversight of the EHS Management System (EHS-MS), ensuring that EHS compliance and regulatory requirements are met and that MIT EHS best practices are followed. Responsibilities include enrolling new principal investigators/supervisors in the EHS-MS, discussing roles and responsibilities in partnership with the EHS Office and setting up/maintaining PI space registration; supporting department heads, laboratory directors, principal investigators, supervisors, and EHS reps in their efforts to effectively execute their responsibilities in the EHS-MS; co-chairing the DLC EHS Committee, ensuring it meets at least annually to review implementation of the EHS-MS and address escalated issues; collaborating with researchers to minimize risk and conduct potentially hazardous activities in accordance with EHS requirements; monitoring training and other regulatory compliance and conducting laboratory inspections; and responding to emergencies or acting as a communications link during emergencies.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in an engineering, science, EHS, or related discipline; at least four years of relevant experience; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to learn specialized computer applications for EHS requirements; strong organizational, administrative, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; good judgment; and ability to work alone or within a team environment. PREFERRED : experience with semiconductor device fabrication, biology, and/or chemistry; lab experience in a professional setting; and proficiency with document and data management tools (e.g., Microsoft SharePoint sites, Wikis, Quickbase).
