POSITION: Part-time Adjunct Philosophy Faculty in the Division of Continuing Education ("DCE")
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Assistant Dean of Humanities
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Philosophy Faculty is a creative, knowledgeable and flexible individual who provides classroom instruction to a diverse student body, teaching courses in the areas of philosophy, ethics and religion. The faculty member works with the philosophy and general humanities chairperson, and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of coursework relevant to the Philosophy and Humanities department. The faculty member must be committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement.
Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities.
Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom.
Support and foster a culture of civic and community engagement.
Master's degree in philosophy.
Successful classroom teaching experience.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, continuous professional improvement, and developmental education.
Experience with a variety of instructional methods.
Ability and willingness to work collegially with faculty in the department and from different disciplines.
Ability to work well with and to be sensitive to students, faculty and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the role of the community college in higher education.
Interest in teaching applied ethics and/or eastern philosophy.
Community college teaching and experience.
Demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement and learning communities, openness to interdisciplinary instruction, and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom lessons or to develop/implement online courses.
Interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning
Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
The need is for those that are dedicated to excellence and to working inclusively with students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities. Compensation is based on the collective bargaining agreement.
