The Managing Editor - Digital Content, reporting to the Director of Strategic Marketing, supports content planning and production for the College's online newsroom at news.holycross.edu. The managing editor is the project manager for the online newsroom, and serves as an integral part of the broader content team in the Office of College Marketing and Communications, sharing the Holy Cross story in support of the College's strategic marketing priorities.
The Managing Editor works in collaboration with divisions across campus (including Academic Affairs, Alumni Relations, Advancement, Admissions, Athletics and others) to develop interesting, diverse and compelling content that aligns with the strategic marketing priorities of the College. This role is also responsible for the oversight and guidance of the content team (3 direct reports) in creating platform-spanning digital content, as well as content for marketing campaigns. The Managing Editor also works closely with the Managing Editor - Holy Cross Magazine and the Strategic Marketing Manager to coordinate content strategy.
The position requires the ability to manage time lines, work flow, and resources efficiently, and to work with a variety of stakeholders. Must be adept at re-prioritizing assignments on-the-fly based on evolving needs and deadlines. Responsible for providing clear, strategic direction and empowering staff (both direct reports and other content producers) to use their creative skills to arrive at the best solution. This position is a key liaison for interpreting the overall College Marketing Plan into digital content. Daily interaction with the Managing Editor - Holy Cross Magazine in order to achieve objectives and integrate initiatives.
Direct reports include Multimedia Producer; Social Media Manager; Writer; and student intern(s).
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Leads development and implementation of a content strategy for news.holycross.edu, which applies strategic marketing priorities of the College to digital content production and executes with regards to the academic calendar, admissions cycle, and content strategies of Holy Cross Magazine, social media and media relations, and other College Marketing & Communications content producers.
Plans and develops content to engage the variety of audiences who access news.holycross.edu, through assigning, writing and editing content, and collaborating with other College stakeholders.
Develops and maintains content calendar, which aims to provide visibility of editorial content being produced across the team, supporting and enhancing strategic collaboration between content producers within College Marketing & Communications.
Curates content for and builds Holy Cross Monthly, a monthly email newsletter sent to all alumni and parents.
Curates content for homepage and news section of holycross.edu.
Oversees and guides Social Media Manager in plans to create and execute social media for content distribution.
Oversees and guides Multimedia Producer in the conception and execution of multimedia content, including photography and videography.
Oversees and guides Writer, including managing assignments and acting as editor.
Is lead editor for digital content, and responsible for ensuring high-quality, impactful content by all content creators.
Collaborates with other members of the College Marketing & Communications staff on major events, initiatives, and publications.
Produce content for news.holycross.edu, Holy Cross Magazine, and other publications as needed.
Work closely with Director of Strategic Marketing to establish, monitor, and adhere to content creation goals.
Collaborate with other content producers to ensure dynamic content development, including photography, videography and social media.
Ensure accountability and adherence to deadlines by all content producers.
Participate as member of division creative team and communications management team as necessary.
Attend national and regional conferences as necessary to understand trends in digital communication, and apply them to their own work and strategy.
Understands and supports the College's mission.

B.A. in English, journalism, communications, or related field plus 3-5 years increasing experience in a newsroom or editorial setting.
Experience managing a newsroom or diverse team of creative professionals, including assignments, content strategy, mentorship and goal-setting.
Excellent project management skills.
Excellent writing, editing skills and understanding of AP style.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with senior leaders as well as department and cross-college colleagues.
Demonstrated experience in developing great stories from concept to publication.
Ability to meet daily deadlines, handle multiple projects simultaneously and shift priorities when necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word; proficiency in Adobe DreamWeaver and Photoshop a plus.
Proficiency in Drupal and Wordpress, or demonstrable ability to learn platforms based off usage of similar platforms.
Experience managing social media a plus.
