STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for instructing group exercise/fitness classes. They will provide safe and effective exercises to participants of a variety of fitness levels.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Special Programs Coordinator of the Fitness Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct scheduled classes, ensuring classes begin and end on time.
Provide adequate warm-up, stretching, and cool-down exercises.
Demonstrate exercise and instruct participants on proper techniques.
Prepare music and equipment needed for class.
Answer questions and maintain a positive workout experience for the participants.
Ensure that safety standards are met and adhere to facility policies.
Inform management of customer and facility needs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must possess at least one of the following credentials:
Certification from an applicable regulating body (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, etc.) in group exercise or personal training.
Associate's degree or higher in exercise science or related field.
Specialty certification from an applicable regulating body (e.g. yoga certificate).
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Minimum one year of experience instructing group exercise classes.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, non-unit, non-benefitted position, working up to 4 hours per week.
Group Fitness Instructors are part time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Fitness classes may be offered in Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, and/or Taunton. Classes may be held during the day, in the evening, and on weekends (Friday nights or Saturdays).
Please note: Positions will be available pending need.
SALARY: Hiring Range: $18-35 per class, commensurate with qualifications.
