The Director of Development is responsible for managing the programs and staff of the Advancement Office relating primarily to annual giving and alumni relations. This individual reports to the Vice President of Advancement. The Director provides leadership for and management of development activities for both internal and external constituents. The Director ensures that the Annual Fund goal is achieved, and that alumni participation is maximized. The Director maintains his/her own portfolio of current and new donors to the Annual Fund. Supervising the Director of Alumni Relations, the Director of Development is responsible for positive alumni spirit and engagement – at all class levels. The Director works with the VP of Advancement to assist in developing the list of potential major donors. He/she must maintain an in-depth knowledge of New England College’s strategic priorities and work to support the goals of the Capital Campaign. The Director will supervise a staff of four, and the admin assistant.
• Work with VP of Advancement, establish ambitious but achievable annual fund goals; • Develop annual plan for Annual Fund activities and travel for all gift officers. This plan includes monthly goals for each area; • Travel to cultivate donors and attend receptions across the U.S.; • Work with the Director of Marketing to plan all print and electronic Advancement publications relating to alumni affairs and annual giving, and provide inputs for the college magazine, which is produced twice each year; • Grow pool of donors, especially alumni, to achieve goal of double-digit percentage participation; • Assist in securing capital gifts on an as-needed basis; • Generate regular reports on giving on a weekly basis, develop new reporting capabilities as donor base expands; • Understand how current database system works, how to generate reports, and manage data; • Ensure that accurate and up-to-date records are kept on all current donors and donor prospects.
Skills & Knowledge
• Excellent verbal and writing skills required • Marketing expertise; • Knowledge of NEC’s history, mission, and strategic vision essential • Success in fundraising and proclivity to ask for gifts and achieve the pledge/gift • Ability to produce reliable forecasts on a variety of fundraising projects • Willingness/Ability to travel
• At least 5 years’ experience in fundraising or revenue-producing capacity in higher education • Knowledge of and experience with database management, CRM products, and other data reporting tools • 3-5 years’ supervisory experience • Leadership experience
