Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider managing a comprehensive collegiate food service program on the Tufts University Medford-Somerville campus delivering high quality, contemporary and innovative food and hospitality services to meet the various needs of students, faculty, staff and visitors in a fiscally responsible manner. Our team operates a progressive resident dining program for approximately 3500 students as well as innovative retail services and a distinctive university catering program serving the campus community totaling 4300 undergraduates, 1200 graduate students and 2300 faculty and staff.
The Dining Service Manager is a member of a unit management team that is responsible for the effective daily management of a campus resident dining unit. The DSM provides leadership in the areas of customer service, quality control, sanitation, food safety, housekeeping, merchandising, special events planning and execution, marketing and promotional activities and dining room and servery management. The DSM may order and count inventory of certain food and supplies as assigned. Schedules and supervises service employees and general workers under the direction of the Unit Manager to achieve responsive customer service within budget parameters. The DSM monitors and leads daily operating procedures including pre-meal crew meetings to evaluate food quality and to review and correctly label all food allergens. Also maintains complete and accurate food and equipment temperature logs and corrects improper temperatures immediately. Supervises all employee activities on assigned shifts. Coaches employees to improve performance and efficiency. Works in compliance with department quality standards, program goals, financial targets and University and department policies and procedures to execute a consistently high quality dining experience in a cost effective manner.
3-5 years experience as a supervisor in a high volume food service operation
Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
Good computer skills including use of e-mail, internet and Microsoft Office software
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Knowledge and practical experience with food service sanitation and hospitality management and a good foundation in food preparation and service
Bachelors degree in food service/hospitality management or nutrition studies with related work experience.
Certification in dietetics is desirable.
A creative person with an understanding of food merchandising and special events planning.
Self-motivated with a can-do attitude, a good sense of humor and a passion for hospitality and customer service.
