Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Computer Science from qualified applicants. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching courses in areas of computer science. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for the relevant technical field(s), and an interest in collaborative work with diverse faculty and staff. They will also demonstrate an ability to engage, mentor, and work with diverse student populations. They will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses by implementing active learning strategies using current computer technologies, software, and tools. A solid understanding of a community college's role in workforce development as well as a successful transfer (through the creation of pathways) to a higher institution is highly desirable. The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professional development. The successful candidate will assist the department to develop relevant courses, and implement innovative teaching strategies such as project-based learning in a studio-like environment for students with diverse interests and learning styles to support student recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Teach a full-time schedule of courses in Computer Science and related disciplines;
Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
Serve as academic advisor to students as well as considering the needs of the students, and assisting them by seeking help from other college services;
Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
Attend Program, Department, Division, Faculty, and Committee meetings;
Assist in selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, demonstrations that utilizes a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities;
Assist the department and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty as needed;
Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, and assessment of courses and programs in consultation with the academic dean;
Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or relevant fields from a regionally accredited university;
Some teaching experience.
Knowledge of object-oriented programming including Java;
Teaching experience at a community college;
Strong communicator and effective classroom facilitator who enjoys teaching in a student-centered, culturally diverse environment;
Relevant industry experience in software development, IT, or cyber security;
Demonstrated commitment to working with underrepresented students through teaching or mentoring;
Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems;
Current industry-recognized certification in programming, IT (including OS), networking, or security;
Familiarity with the use of appropriate educational technology and equipment;
Experience with federal and/or state grants;
Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community;
