STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for processing student financial aid files and determining student eligibility for federal and state financial aid funds. They will meet with students to provide information about financial aid programs, as well as assist students to complete necessary applications and forms. The Financial Aid Counselor conducts workshops on- and off-campus, presenting pertinent information in regards to the availability of financial aid. They will work collaboratively with the Financial Aid staff, as well as other College personnel to deliver student centered services, with an emphasis on customer service and the use of technology to facilitate access to and encourage student retention. This position will be located on the Fall River campus.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Financial Aid.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review, evaluate, and assess student financial aid application data to determine eligibility by verifying income and ensuring compliance with other US Department of Education and MA Board of Higher Education eligibility guidelines.
Review student files for financial aid award package.
Counsel students and appropriate family members on available financial aid opportunities.
Assist students and families through the FAFSA and verification process.
Provide information and guidance to students and families regarding unique circumstances impacting financial aid eligibility.
Reconcile various award accounts for compliance.
Conduct workshops and present financial aid and financial literacy information at College events, high schools, and community agencies.
Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services, Sociology, or closely related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience and/or training involving financial aid operations or student loan processing.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is a temporary MCCC/MTA, part time, non-benefitted, 18.5 hours per week unit position.
