The Veterinary Technology Facility Animal Caretaker works collaboratively with Massasoit Community College staff, faculty, employees, and students to provide Vet Tech Program animals with excellent compassion and care. The animal caretaker demonstrates teamwork and respect while carrying out these duties. Job responsibilities include proper care and welfare of program animals, general cleaning and upkeep of the Veterinary Technology kennel areas and facility in general, ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions and protocols, and the ability and self-motivation to work independently.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Walk dogs per safety protocol and pick up after them
Feed and provide fresh water to dogs and cats
Wash dishes and bowls
Clean litter boxes
Wash & disinfect kennels and cages
Wash, dry, & fold bedding
Monitor the health and comfort of the animals
Report any animal health problems to the program coordinator, facility coordinator or program veterinarian
Bathe animals as needed
General cleaning and upkeep of animal housing, food prep, and laundry areas
Ability to maintain accurate records
Empty trash and recycling
Administration of oral or topical medications
Care of post-surgical patients

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
An Associate’s degree or higher, animal handling experience and basic knowledge of medical terminology. The Kennel Attendant must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.
Experience and familiarity with veterinary medicine and animal care will be a plus. Candidates should be fluent with technology and have strong organizational skills, a history of effective collaboration, and a willingness to tackle unexpected challenges.
On call duties on a rotating basis to ensure the welfare of the in house animal colonies will be required.

10 month position approximately mid-August to mid-June
Worksite: The Canton Campus of Massasoit Community College (although travel to other instructional sites may be required)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Wed – Fri 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM and Sat – Sun 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Salary: Grade 7, Step 1 $1,065.47 bi-weekly ($27,702.18 annually) – Salary prorated and represents a 10 month work schedule paid over 12 months
