The Communication Technician II installs and maintains campus infrastructures for data, voice and video. The Communications Technician II is responsible for delivering end level user support for a broad range of communications equipment and services. This position is also responsible for installation of new and existing technologies to support campus services and intermediate level support for Telecommunications, Network and Video services.
Associates degree preferred
3-5 years of equivalent experience and additional industry certifications a benefit
Experience with structured wiring and computing services in a LAN environment, including specific experience with unshielded twisted pair, Fiber and coax
General understanding of wired and wireless networks
General understanding of network management tools
Solid technical problem-solving skills
Ability to use common software applications such as Word, Excel, Visio and e-mail
Customer service orientation is important, and must demonstrate good judgment.This requirement cannot be compromised as the position has extensive interaction with the University community
Ability to function in a team oriented environment
Ability to perform physical labor in the field
Possess a valid driverâ™s license
Possess a valid Telecommunications license from the State of Rhode Island
This position requires considerable time in the field. The ability to travel on foot, climb ladders, stairs and move heavy equipment is mandatory. The ability to work in confined spaces and receive proper training for combined space entry is also required.
