ELECTRICAL ENGINEER TEAM LEADER , Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) , to work both on SPARC systems directly and on projects that will investigate concepts needed for a fusion reactor. PSFC recently announced a new, accelerated pathway to fusion energy that is based on the development and demonstration of the world's highest performing superconducting fusion magnets and the design of the first net-energy fusion device-the SPARC tokamak. Will direct engineers in the design, procurement, fabrication, and installation of exciting new systems needed for PSFC research projects that will come online over the next several years. High current power supplies, multi-megawatt RF transmitters, and associated transmission lines and antennas are examples of the systems that will be brought into operation. Will work with both engineers and physicists to develop engineering requirements and to identify, implement, and document engineering solutions based on commercial and custom-designed systems; work with vendors to develop specifications for major new equipment and then follow the process through procurement and installation; develop resource loaded schedules for these installations; and direct engineers developing these systems and the associated instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems.
PSFC is an internationally recognized facility at the forefront of plasma physics and fusion energy research.
REQUIRED : B.S. degree or higher in electrical engineering; at least five years' experience; demonstrated record of accomplishment in engineering and managing/directing other engineers; strong working knowledge of megawatt-level power systems and the instrumentation and control systems needed to operate them; clear understanding of kilovolt-level three-phase transmission systems and the safety issues involved; and understanding of project management and scheduling for planning and executing complex projects.
