Dean College's Writing Program of Liberal Arts is looking for dynamic, experienced, student-centered educators to teach Composition I and Composition II during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.
We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach ENG 111: Composition I and ENG 112: Composition II on-campus during the day. ENG 111 and ENG 112 are 3-credit courses that meets for 2.5 hours/week. [The Workshop version of ENG 111 meets for 3.75 hours/week and is designed for students who do not have much experience writing 3-5-page essays that assert and support a thesis with evidence and discussion. Additional class time is devoted to more interactive exercises and in-class writing.] There are approximately 20-25 students in a section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach.
The Writing Program offer a fairly standard Composition course sequence that integrates reading and writing skills. While certain text selections are suggested, the choice of texts is up to the faculty with approval of the Humanities coordinator. There are currently multiple ENG 111 and ENG 112 sections available. They are scheduled on Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday schedules.
A PhD or doctoral candidate in English is preferred; a Master's degree in English or a related field is required. College teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching first and second year undergraduates. Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary. The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching; use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy and the ability to work effectively with a culturally-diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
