The Instructor of English and Oral Communication is a 9-month, full-time faculty position that has primary teaching responsibility for Oral Communication and Public Speaking courses; works with faculty in the area of oral communication to assess and improve the curriculum, and carries out service related to assessing students? incoming oral proficiency abilities.Responsibilities: Provide instruction for a course that develops oral proficiency, LIB 104; a course on the study and practice of public speaking, LIB 252; and a course in which students learn to improve their speaking and listening skills in a healthcare context, LIB 253 Oral Communication in Healthcare Strive to stimulate learning and actively seek advancement of teaching and learning processes, particularly for English Language Learner students Work collaboratively with the English Language Resource Faculty and the Expository Writing faculty to assess students? incoming levels of oral proficiency for proper placement into LIB 104 Applied Linguistics and LIB 253 Oral Communication in Healthcare Work collaboratively with Oral Communication faculty to periodically assess and revise the curriculum Participate in departmental faculty meetingsAdditional responsibilities may be assigned by the Department Chair or by the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.Qualifications:Required: Minimum of Master?s degree in applied linguistics, TESOL, or a related field A minimum of three years of college teaching experience Demonstrated abilities to work successfully with English Language Learners Excellent organization and written and oral communication skills Knowledge of best curriculum and teaching practices Knowledge of policies and procedures germane to MCPHS Strong innovative and collaborative skills Ability to use MS Office Suite Ability to effectively use technology tools Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations Ability to work with multiple constituencies ? students, faculty, and staff Ability to proactively and constructively work with a variety of situations and people Ability to work both as a member of a team and as a team leaderMCPHS offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits that includes a substantial contribution toward the cost of medical and dental insurance, generous time off benefits, and a significant pension plan contribution.
