General Statement of Duties
The mission of the National Workforce Diversity Healthcare Pipeline Project Healthcare is to increase the number of underrepresented African American, Latino, Native American and disadvantaged (low-income, first generation), healthcare providers by creating a high school to college pipeline of students who enter the healthcare field.
The Academic Counselor is responsible for counseling/advising high school students on degree/career programs, coordinating vocational development and internship placement. The Academic Counselor will plan, implement and supervise academic sessions. The Academic Counselor is responsible for supervising all educational activities, academic assessment and evaluation measures, coordinating participants' education plans, and monitoring their progress. The Academic Counselor will work with a cohort of students at Fitchburg High, Leominster High or Leominster CTEi. The Academic Counselor will instruct a Healthcare Career and Community Service class during the cohort students' senior year in high school as part of their workload. The Academic Counselor will provide supervision and guide students through the college enrollment and financial aid application process.
Under the direction of the Director of Diversity Pipeline, implement and supervise academic sessions.
Provide outreach and coordination of activities for the program to targeted schools.
Collaborate with other program staff and Academic Counselors to develop academic sessions.
Assist Director with academic and monthly field trip planning.
Provide students with the college application enrollment and financial aid application process.
Facilitate and organize workshops on the FAFSA process.
Coordinate financial literacy workshops for students and parents
Assist students and parents with college application process.
Work with students to create senior college portfolio.
Develop lesson plans and instruct a Healthcare Career and Community Service Class.
Present weekly workshops that strengthen students' academic skill set (i.e., note taking, test taking strategies, study skills, time management, etc.).
Create and teaches career development and life skills to students (i.e., resume writing, job search, career cluster assessments, etc.).
Coordinate workshops and guest speakers.
Check-in monthly with students one-on-one to provide academic coaching at target school for academic progress.
Conduct, collect and maintain students' individual success plan.
Provide and coordinate tutoring sessions and academic programming based on academic needs of students.
Assist students one-on-one with their academic and personal goals needs.
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with target school staff.
Attend school health advisory board, staff and faculty meetings at targeted schools and the college.
Communicate weekly with target school staff regarding student success, academics and student records.
Collaborates with college and high school staff faculty to present college preparation information to students.
Collaborates with the college Academic Affairs and Healthcare division to develop workshops and activities related to the healthcare industry.
Work with the Director of the program to plan and coordinate academic and summer programming.
Collaborate with summer staff and teachers during the summer college career exploration program to coordinate program logistics, classes, programming, and field trips.
Recruit students to the summer program.
Organize and conduct student summer orientation.
Build partnerships with local institutions and organizations that are health science and STEM related focused to provide events/programs per semester for students.
Communicate with community groups and outside agencies and to refer students for volunteer and community services opportunities.
Outreach to internal and external partners to provide workshops related to the healthcare industry.
Maintain working knowledge of grant objectives and regulations.
Collect and maintain monthly student data for grant reports.
Provide Program Director with monthly program surveys, assessment data, and monthly narratives for reporting purposes.
Communicate and assist Program Data Analyst by inputting data into electronic database (EPSA).
Maintain placement tests knowledge to provide proper college course selection to students.
Participate in Accuplacer testing training.
Communicate with the Dual Enrollment Program staff to develop appropriate college course selections for students.
Assist and prepare students for college placement testing.
Reviews scores and post-secondary placements with the students; provides course selection advising.
Participate in professional organizations and attend state and regional conferences in applicable areas (i.e. attends workshops, professional development opportunities and training sessions).
Attend targeted schools monthly professional development sessions.
Along with the Director, participate in conference calls with the funder.
Research local and national conferences to present program's work
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field;
Three (3) years experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management;
or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Salary: $43,964.86-$54,956 Grant Funded with Limitations Grant End Date 7/30/2020
