SENIOR WRITER AND MEDIA RELATIONS SPECIALIST , School of Engineering , to work directly with the dean of the School of Engineering and its leadership team to develop and execute written communications from the dean specifically and from the school more broadly. Reporting to the director of communications, will produce a steady flow of high-level editorial content, including speeches for the dean, articles, and content for email, web, and social media; serve as editor and project lead for The Infinite (a monthly email from the dean to the MIT engineering community); and serve as the dean's primary point of contact with the media, including responding to all reporter queries and interview requests, staffing media interviews, and engaging with news media to promote the dean and his vision for the school.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (master' desirable); at least seven years' experience in journalism, communications, media relations, or related field; ability to develop and deliver editorial content within a higher education setting; ability to translate complex subjects into accessible prose; journalism experience that involved writing, editing, reporting, and producing award-winning content; demonstrated experience managing complex editorial projects and thought-leadership strategies; experience producing content for web and social media; basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, HTML, Adobe CS, social media channels, web content management systems, and related web tools.
