The Social Sciences Division is a multidisciplinary division of ten faculty members within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The majority of our faculty teach across multiple disciplines and collaborate to create a learning environment for our students focused on inclusivity and social justice. We have approximately 200 undergraduate students in six majors: Children, Youth and Family Studies; Human Services; Global Studies; Political Science; Social Work; and Sociology & Social Change. In addition, we have seven minors, including our newest offering, Women's Gender and Sexuality studies. We emphasize interdisciplinary teaching, collaborative research, and applied and experiential learning in an effort to take our students beyond the classroom and into the world in which they will apply the knowledge and skills they gain. Lesley serves an increasingly diverse student population from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds, including traditional age college students, adult students, and students from partnering community college institutions.
Join the growing faculty within the Social Sciences Division of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Lesley University. We have launched a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program to begin in Fall 2019 and are developing a Master in Social Work (MSW) program to begin Fall 2020. Our BSW program is in Pre-Candidacy for accreditation through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and we expect to begin the accreditation process for our MSW program through CSWE in the 2019-2020 academic year. We are seeking to fill multiple faculty positions at the ranks of Assistant and Associate professor (full-time, 9-month) for our social work programs with possibility of leadership roles in future semesters. These faculty will be directly involved with the development of curriculum in both the BSW and MSW majors and will work collaboratively with existing social work faculty towards the goal of accreditation. Qualified individuals will bring practice, teaching, and research experience in Social Work at the MSW level, including experience working with diverse students and evidence of inclusive teaching. Practice experience in community health and mental health settings is preferred. The successful candidate will have two years post MSW practice experience which should also inform their teaching and scholarship. A strong commitment to teaching, and the ability to teach Social Work curriculum from an introductory college level through graduate level is required. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to the continued development of the BSW and MSW programs and has the ability to teach and develop courses across delivery models (face to face, hybrid, and online).
Faculty will teach two courses per semester in the BSW program during the first year of appointment and will increase their load to our standard three to four courses per semester (seven courses per academic year) from the second year of appointment forward. The second year of appointment will coincide with the inaugural year of our MSW program. Faculty are expected to be flexible in terms of course delivery models (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, online) in teaching and course development. Training for online course development and teaching will be offered on campus to support and enhance faculty skills in these areas.
Our new faculty members will have a strong commitment to teaching, and the ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level and across the spectrum of an advanced generalist MSW program. Further, the successful candidate will have experience working with diverse students and evidence of inclusive teaching. Faculty members will advise students, participate in curriculum development, engage in academic scholarship, serve on appropriate college and university committees, and participate in recruitment and division activities.
An earned Doctorate in Social Work by September 1, 2019.
